Settle Carlisle Railway Book Success…

The official line guide, commonly referred to as the Black Book by the Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company, was developed by Java Productions almost 20 years ago. It was a brief from Marion Armstrong, Head of the SRC Development company at the time, that set the creative juices flowing and it became a real family production.  Jez Holdsworth, our current Designer here at Java created the idea of a black book, his late father Peter Holdsworth drew all the line and watercolour illustrations and his brother Tim Holdsworth created all the photography.

The book has been sold on the railway since that day and changed very little in its design. Over the years over 250,000 copies of the Black Book have been sold to raise much-needed funds to help keep the line running and the team at Java are very proud to have created such an appreciated and long-serving publication.
